An invitation to a performance of Puccini’s Tosca conducted by Maestro Plácido Domingo at the Metropolitan Opera on Nov 18th.
There are a few people in the world who are recognized and given a gift by God.
Maestro Domingo is absolute one of these people.
His celestial performance was truly inspiring to me.
It leads me to what I have to do next.
Congratulations! Maestro Domingo was honored by Vanity Fair as their choice for “Person of the Year 2015!”.
Fidel Castro established a new government after the Cuban Missile Crisis. It forced the government to speak up for the interests of poor farmers and workers, initiating a land reform so that even the poorest farmers were given some land. However, some of this land was confiscated from US companies so in this process, relations with the United States worsened. The United States decided to stop the import of sugar, which was the main industry of Cuba, further severing diplomatic relations.
In 1961 American President John F. Kennedy announced the economic blockade of Cuba, which banned all imports and exports. This economic blockade prevented the progress of Cuba’s economy and it has stagnated since the 1960s. However, due to the Cuban revolution and its principles led by Che Guevara and others, Cuba has retained and developed a functional national health insurance system and a higher education system that is accessible to all.
John Lennon pronounced Guevara “best looking, coolest guy in the world.” Che Guevara has left his influence even after his heroic death as a guerrilla.
Although he suffered from asthma, Guevara was a known cigar lover. The cigar has become a symbol of the revolutionaries and a Cuban specialty product that appeals to the rest of the world. It was also used as insect repellent in guerrilla warfare.
Guevara’s favorite drink was not any type of liquor, but yerba mate, which is the national drink of Argentina.
Business between Cuba and the United States will still take some time, I think, but China and Japan are investing in anticipation. It is worth it to invest in Cuban Art right now, but if I had the funds, I would invest in the development capabilities of their high medical skills and technology. For example, they have recently produced some amazing lung cancer vaccines!

Acclaimed Michelin Two-Star and El Bulli trained French Chef Akrame Benallal has opened Atelier Vivanda, a unique and contemporary French bistrot à viande, which pays homage to la viande (meat) and la vie (life). Current locations include Paris and Hong Kong with several more locations set to open in Paris, London, Brussels, Berlin, and parts of Asia.
I was in Paris this month and was introduced to “Atelier Vivanda”. This new meat and potatoes/simple concept bistro was the most exciting place I tried while I was there. I had Ris de Veau, and Persille Black Angus and potatoes and was blown away by Chef Benallal’s excellent eye for selecting meat and his grilling technique.
The menu begins with starters which showcase the simple yet delicious taste of high quality meats, such as Thinly Sliced Smoked Beef Matured for 50 Days, a house specialty created by Chef Akrame’s unique recipe, and Iberian Pata Negra Bellota and Old Comte.
L’Entree Au Choix (Entrée) highlights include Duck Leg Terrine with Vinegar Spring Onions, Veal Carpaccio and a Caesar Salad with Sesame and Cashew Nuts. The main course, La Viande Au Choix, comprises of a variety of meats including Black Angus Flank, Yellow Chicken Breast, and Iberian Pork Rib. Le Croquavor, Atelier Vivanda’s reinterpretation of the hamburger is the house’s specialty.
The delightful mains are complemented by L’Accompagnement Au Choix, which includes side dishes such as Pomme Dauphines and Gratin Dauphinois, showcasing the versatility of potatoes. Dessert selections include Chef Akrame’s interpretation of Crème Brulee, Moelleux au Chocolat and Caramel Profitoclaire with quintessential French flavors.
Atelier Vivanda is a must-try in Paris and a very good business model for future bistros.
Princess Charlene and Albert II de Monaco are seen in the background of this photo. I have met them 3 times and they are very lovely.

This season, the Metropolitan Opera presented Verdi’s Ernani with Maestro Plácido Domingo taking on the baritone role of Don Carlo for the first time in his legendary career. Always up for a challenge, Maestro Domingo is also conducting Verdi’s Aida this season.
His outstanding performance is, as usual, gorgeous, youthful and energetic. The audience was clearly fascinated and enthralled with Maestro Domingo as he drew bravos for his arias.
I cannot express my admiration for this super genius performer. His repertoire includes more than 140 roles, and he has sung 3,600 performances in opera houses worldwide. He always makes brave choices, dares to take risks, and continues to give powerful performances. He is beloved by legions of fans all over the world. The spirit of this masterful performer continues to inspire me after all these years.
These new fashions are reminiscent of the Mondrian-inspired look that was popularized by Yves Saint Laurent in the 1960’s. Again, fashion designers are attracted to a fusion of bold colors and graphics. Using the whole body as a canvas to reflect the colors and shapes of modern art is nothing new!
The world is full of color and shape. It is a shame when we forget to notice this beauty in our world. It is important to be aware and appreciate this rich phenomenal sense that is part of the human experience.
For some reason, I feel it is often overlooked here in NYC.
The Hundred Foot Journey, from executive producers Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg, is a film about a clash of culinary cultures: spicy and hearty Indian vs. French haute cuisine.

Capital in the Twenty-First Century is a 2013 book by French economist Thomas Piketty. What are the grand dynamics that drive the accumulation and distribution of capital? Questions about the long-term evolution of inequality, the concentration of wealth, and the prospects for economic growth lie at the heart of political economy. But satisfactory answers have been hard to find for lack of adequate data and clear guiding theories. In Capital in the Twenty-First Century, Thomas Piketty analyzes a unique collection of data from twenty countries, ranging as far back as the eighteenth century, to uncover key economic and social patterns. His findings will transform debate and set the agenda for the next generation of thought about wealth and inequality.A work of extraordinary ambition, originality, and rigor, Capital in the Twenty-First Century reorients our understanding of economic history and confronts us with sobering lessons for today.
In the slums of Brazzaville, in the Republic of the Congo, gentlemen dressed in designer suits walk with an elegant gait. These passionate fashionistas are called “Sapeurs”
Sapeurs are members of the Societe des Ambianceurs et des Personnes Elegantes (The Society of Ambiance-Makers and Elegant People) also known as SAPE. SAPE is a social movement that was founded in the Congo by Andre Bernard Matsoua in 1922. Characterized by elegant manners and a brilliant fashion aesthetic, adherents of the movement dress in the style of French fashion but incorporate the bright colors of the Congo.
The color of the clothing is important to the Sapeurs and there are rules to follow. They use very bright colors but they are limited to three colors in each outfit. The average monthly income of resident of Brazzaville is about $300.00 but the accessories, suits and shirts that they are wearing may cost thousands of dollars.
Not just a fashion statement, the Sapeurs live their lives in stark contrast to the poverty that surrounds them. They believe that there is no place in this world for aggression and that you must be respectful of others if you want to live elegantly. The SAPE movement is a light that illuminates the darkness of an oppressed society. This small fashion movement may change the future of their country.
The jewelry brand MHT graced the windows of their boutique with these illustrations. Dogs wearing jewelry in New York, Cats wearing jewelry in Tokyo. I can’t tell if these pets are proud or embarrassed to be wearing this jewelry. It seems to be more of an enjoyment for the pet owners, not the pets themselves. These charming illustrations were created by Puryunu-Shireri.
Personally, I don’t think my cat RUBI needs any jewelry. With her beautiful eyes that look like jewels, she doesn’t need any other adornment!

A Mont Blanc (or Mont-Blanc aux marrons, Italian: Monte Bianco) is a dessert made of pureed, sweetened chestnuts topped with whipped cream. The name comes from Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in The Alps, as it resembles a snow-capped mountain.
The Mont Blanc is popular in France, Italy and Japan. Interestingly, the dessert takes different shapes in different countries based on their view of The Alps. On the French side, the view of is of rolling hills; on the Italian side, sharp peaks, and the desserts in each country reflect those shapes.
The Mihoko’s 21 Grams Mont Blanc was created by our pastry chef, Emiko Merdy. Our Mont Blanc combines both “mountain views” by reflecting the French rolling hills in a fig and mascarpone ice cream, while the chestnuts and cream form the sharp Italian peaks. We know you will enjoy this beautiful and delicious pastry, a Haute Couture of dessert.
Manuka honey has been gaining popularity since the 1980’s due to its valuable medicinal and anti-inflammatory properties. Harvested from a shrub of the myrtle family that grows naturally only in New Zealand, Manuka honey is anti-bacterial, contains various vitamins and minerals, is rich in amino acids, and has a high nutritional value. It is said to be extremely effective as a treatment for many ailments including stomach cancer, stomach ulcers, tonsillitis, colds, tooth decay, gum disease, and detoxification of the body.
Aside from all the miraculous medicinal properties, Manuka honey is delicious! It is an ideal ingredient for many dishes because it is stable to heat and light. Not overly sweet, very concentrated, with a deep caramel color and a mellow floral scent, we serve Manuka honey as the perfect compliment to Valdeon blue cheese.
The greatest birthday gift I got this year…a ticket to see a performance by my inspiration, Ricardo Muti.
23/09/14 Chicago Symphony Orchestra/Beethoven Symphony No9 in D minor
How exciting to see Maestro’s charismatic performance!
The coming figure of gallant Muti is reminiscent of the image of a sculpture of a Greek hero. The baton is strong, like lightning tearing across the sky. The crescendo that explodes like thunder knocks you out.
On the other hand, he is ghostly passionate like the blue sky of Italy, beautiful enough to move you to tears.
Congratulations on Shiki Theatre Company’s 61st anniversary on July 14, Mr. Asari!
Keita Asari, a phenomenal Theater Director and Japanese Entrepreneur who attracted a large number of political and business associates and who contributed much to the world of theatre, retired on June 25, 2014.
Mr. Asari was the king of theatre. When he retired every media reported the announcement as top news.
Shiki Theatre Company is one of Japan’s best-known and largest theatre companies. The company operates nine theaters for their exclusive use.
Originally, they staged classic plays by Jean Anouilh or Jean Giraudoux. However, in the late 1970s, he found success with many Broadway musicals such as Cats, Phantom of the Opera, and The Lion King. Every Broadway musical that was produced was, in my opinion, better than the original.
Mr. Asari created a mega theater company that has nine dedicated theaters across the country, owns the original rights to the creative elements of their productions, boasts 3000 performances staged each year, has mobilized 3 million people, and generates sales of 20 billion or more. The company was intended to contribute to the wealth of society as a theater company, not only the pursuit of financial profit as a company.
I met Mr. Asari when I was 19 years old and he has been my mentor since then.
He gave me many opportunities and I learned so much from him.
I have a cry every day in shock, not only me of course, but many, many people who are involved in the theater were saddened to hear of his retirement. I had an introduction to many people in the theater when I went to America and England to study to work as a costume designer. I believe that this was The Golden Age of theater and I know that I was very lucky to be a part of productions like Amadeus, Elephant Man at The National Theater, Tosca at The Royal Opera House, A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Glyndebourne Opera. It was an experience like no other.
After returning to Japan, the musicals Evita and West Side Story, as well as straight plays like Tessa gave me the chance to be part of a larger, incredible works of costume design. My career would not have been the same without these opportunities. How many others have been nurtured and sent out to thrive in the world of theater by Mr. Ansari?
He knows how to grab the human heart…he is amazingly genius.
I wish to be able to have the opportunity to work with you again.
Words cannot express my gratitude and appreciation for Keita Asari.
“The Grand Budapest Hotel” is a tale of humor and adventure at a luxury hotel in fictional Republic of Zubrowka.

The interior of the hotel was realized by converting a department store in Germany, Fashion house FENDI provided fur coat and props were handmade by local artists. Yet again, director WES ANDERSON has created a world of singular aesthetic vision.
The film captivates with its picturesque locations and actual fine hotels in France, Switzerland and Morocco. As the attention to detail takes away your breath, consider the film’s central question: What is true luxury?

Roberto Bolle is an Italian dancer. He is currently a principal dancer with the American Ballet Theatre and also holds Etoile with The Royal Ballet and La Scala Theatre Ballet. He was accepted at the La Scala theatre ballet school in Milan at the age of eleven. Rudulf Nureyev chose Roberto to represent Tadzio in the ballet “Death in Venice”. Bolle has also appeared in numerous fashion and style magazines and has been featured in advertising campaigns as a model. It is likened to a “Greek sculpture dance” often flesh, by high artistic quality that has been forged with the glamorous looks. In addition it is a perfect technique, expressive and elegant. Here is a striking session by photographer Giampaolo Sgura.
Other young dancers that have caught my attention are: David Hallberg (USA), Jose Manuel Carreño (Cuba), Joaquin De Luz (Spain), Nikolay Tsiskaridze (Russia), Marcelo Gomes (Brazil), Dennis Matvienko (Ukraine) and Guillaume Cote (Canada).
Wearing a sexy lace dress and bright red devil lip stick, Monica Bellucci, represents the seductive look of Italy.
Lips are the secret to increase the functionality of the woman. For me, lipstick is poetic, symbolizing beauty. By applying lip stick, every woman will look impressive. She is the most beautiful woman for me.
It was likely to faint when she sat down with her husband Vincent Cassel (gorgeous couple! but they got divorced in 2013) in front of me at an invitation dinner that the Monaco Royal Family sponsored.
1910, TRUSSARDI was founded in Bergamo, Italy as high-quality leather gloves manufacturer. Nearly three decades ago the TRUSSARDI BICYCLE below was created by the brand founders. I was given this bike 30 years ago as a birthday gift from my friend. I had to ride a bike to school for six years when I was in junior high school and a senior in high school.
Sporting bike with a blue frame and classic brown leather accessories, the above bike fetched about €1,600 at a recent auction.
This time a brand new ” TRUSSARDI 1911 ” it is a novel combination of a camouflage patterned downright bag and a classic body. I totally love these, its luxury to the next level

Title: New Item – Wonderglass Lighting
By fusing the craftsmanship of Venetian glass and the traditional talent of a designer, a wonderland of new lighting has been created. Inspired by the city of Venice, where the real world and fantasy co-exist, this lighting, called flow and port, is a lighting design expressed by the beauty of contrasting colors. The back-to-back colors suggest the existence of a fictional city moving just beneath the surface of the water.
Over the past decade, the simple cocktail has morphed into a product of almost rococo complexity. The new generations of bartenders know how spirits are made and how they mix with other ingredients. They raid the pantry for herbs, veggies, flowers, even meat, and they are creating a new cocktail ecosystem.
Mihoko’s 21 Grams is proud to debut our new cocktail, Fleur Rouge.
2014 Cocktail Style: Sophisticated, low-alcohol cocktails
Feel the textures, flavors, and admire the technique in my latest post. I am always looking for new-featured dishes. These are some of the most spectacular food photographs that I have found to inspire your next culinary presentation.
These photos capture the astonishing quality of the produce, the utter purity of flavor, and the chef’s whole approach to food. I found that it echoes my experience in the theatre and with orchestras quite closely —the chef/conductor/director who has to inspire a not very well paid team of artists to create magic, exactly when necessary, day after day.
The necessity for both inspiration and repetition; the ability to motivate people to achieve the highest possible standards. For me it’s this world, this culture, so uniquely different with each chef, that makes the end result—the dish, the product—so engrossing.
The fantasy production, The Enchanted Island, was performed at the Met Opera on march 15th. The gorgeous Maestro Domingo’s dramatic tone and captivating performance received a standing ovation from the audience. What is a true celebrity? What makes someone an icon….what is it that attracts audiences all over the world ? I learn the answer when I see such an incredible performance and witness the thoughtfulness and authenticity of a true artist. I still can and will learn from him all the time. It was always very generous of you to include me in your many events in NYC. I am looking forward to greeting you when you dine at our restaurant again in the near future.

I have been living in NYC for 3.5 years …… One of my big questions is, why do New Yorkers wear mostly black ? Life is not fair, get used to it or not. The heart was made to be broken. Society often forgives the criminal,it never forgives the dreamer. We live in an age when unnecessary things are our only necessities. Black has been associated with rebellion and the denial of color. This association is old-fashioned and not relevant today. Monotone with a focus on black and white became an innovative unisex design in the fashion world in the early 1980s.
Before The Black Revolution in Fashion, Coco Chanel said: Black has it all. White too. Their beauty is absolute. It is the perfect harmony. Simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance. Elegance must be uncomfortable in NYC. The word perfect is a dead language in this city.
Coco Chanel 1883-1971
Simplicity is difficult, but if you get it right, you gain real confidence. Chef Noriyuki Hamada. He is a Karuizawa Japan-based chef who received the Paul Bocuse Awards in 2013. If you get the opportunity to taste his perfect dishes you might weep with happiness! London-based, top food photographer, Richard Haughton creates dazzling works of art with a clean, bright, and inspired style. These two innovators have collaborated on a new book that proves that the key to successful dishes is “Don’t mess with the food itself.” I cannot wait for this book!
To give you one ideal example, you could then consider an electronic cigarette.
These e-cigarettes produce water vapor that is comprised of vegetable glycerin with steam plus micronized accurate and propylene glycol (VG) and (PG). Unlike tobacco, this mist does not contain harmful tar and carbon monoxide. Also, the mist does not cause the so-called dirty tar brown teeth, and because it consists of fragrance, water, VG and PG, the liquid from the mist does not have the unpleasant smell associated with real cigarettes. The rules can be hazy for electronic cigarettes, devices that uses synthetic nicotine and are cheaper and cleaner than the traditional kind.
About $40 each, with liquid refills available in flavors like coffee, vanilla, and “juicy fruit”. Battery-powered devices to go.
New York City’s first E-cigarette Ba draws a crowd. It is allowed in many states. E-Cigarettes are banned in some public places but restaurants, movie theaters, nightclubs, planes, trains , and shopping malls may allow “vaping” in New York and New Jersey.

2014 ZODIAC IS A HORSE War Horse Now playing at the New London Theater

South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company brings breathing, galloping, full-scale horses to life on the stage.
Kagemusha “Shadow Warrior” by Japanese Film Director Akira Kurosawa
Akira Kurosawa is a very famous story that draws a storyboard himself. When I draw a picture I consider a lot of things. Setting of the place, feelings and psychology of the person leaving the scene, the movement of the people. If I do not specifically contemplated camera angles to catch it, the state of the light beam, props and costumes, a lot of things to say so, it is not in the picture I draw the scene.
Philip Tsiaras is an international artist who works in a great range of media…Installations,Photography,Painting,Sculpture,Videos.
Antonio Stradivari was an Italian luthier and a crafter of string instruments such as violins, cellos, guitars, violas, and harps.
It is Stradivarius who, in 1721, made the “Lady Blunt”. This violin was auctioned for $ 1.2 billion in 2011.
I feel that the tone of the violin Stradivarius is so distinctive that you just hear it out of nowhere when walking down the streets of Manhattan. It is the envy of collectors and violinists. Stradivarius is often the most expensive piece at auction. Stradivari’s work is shrouded in many mysteries. The blood of young women and nutritional components of propolis bees that have been found in the red varnish on the violin or The wood used to make the violin came from a forest 17-18th century that was a 3-hour drive from Cremona Italy. . . . . Many Craftsmen of the world of today are challenging the mystery of this violin with structural analysis by CT scan.
This is a piece from one of my collections, a stationery set that was the wedding favor when Napoleon married Josephine on 9 March 1796. He sent her many love letters…. “I awake full of you. Your image and the memory of last night’s intoxicating pleasures has left no rest to my senses.” “You to whom nature has given spirit, sweetness, and beauty, you who alone can move and rule my heart, you who know all too well the absolute empire you exercise over it!” Later, it seems that his love of power grew, his love for Josephine faded. He said, “Power is my mistress.” What an interesting love story, the relationship between Joséphine and Napoléon!
My favorite rose, “Souvenir de la Malmaison”

These three watches are ultimate formal wear. The true value of the watch is in beauty and complicated details.
Extra bonus story
Historically, watches were one of the most expensive accessories. They were reserved for royalty and the very wealthy members of society. Henry VIII was one of the most honored and intellectual members of the royal family of England. One of his favorite hobbies was to winding his watch an all-time high, fun he was to wind his watch night after night. Marie Antoinette commissioned a pocket watch to be created by Breguet in 1783. 44years later, the watch was finally completed.
Audrey Headburn Crown
The brand was started by two artists who met by chance in Paris in the 1980s. The inspired elements Adam and Eve, in the garden of Eden, No’s Ark, and Paradise Lost, shows the complex love/hate relationship between man and woman. I get the feeling of life overflowing from each piece. They foreshadow a hint of wealth in the future. The straightforward and colorful message on the outside expresses the inner surface of the artist’s hear. The fruit, leaves, and the flower motif represent the cycle of life and the resurrection of animals and nature.

My new Compact Digital Camera Nikon Coolpix P330
The lens is by far the brightest. Image quality is good in low light. I purchased this camera for daily use. I like the high sensitivity sensor. I have decided to go out on more excursions, which I haven’t done in a while, because of the influence of a friend. It will be, of course, to savor delicious meals in beautiful surroundings with my favorite travel necessities, as usual.
He was a french Novelist, Diplomat, and Playwright. He is considered to be among the most important French dramatists of the period between World War I and World War II. His work is noted for its stylistic elegance and poetic fantasy. Ondine is considered by some to be Giraudoux’s finest work.
Ondine was a beautiful water nymph, but came to the human world to fall in love with knight Hans. The subsequent marriage of people from different worlds is of course folly. By turns comic, enchanting, and tragic. In my late teens to mid-20s, I was crazy about the playwrights of France, especially Jean Giraudeau. It has been a while since I have thought about love…I would like to try reading these again and now may be the time. I recommend his theatrical drama productions of these others.
The famous macaroons shop named The Madame Blanchez was founded in 1620.
The macaroons are made from hand crushed almond powder and baked and served on parchment paper. This is the original way to make macaroons.
Cannelés of the Baillardrais is a specialty of world heritage Saint-Emilion.
You can choose three levels of baked doneness and you can get the molds too. You can try to make your own. When you make it, I prefer the Irish liqueur to the Rum.
“LILLET” is also a Bordeaux specialty.
It is a liquor that is blended with Quinine as an aperitif. I like to drink it straight, but try cinnamon and basil in this drink …interesting twist.
Les Cordeliers is the sparkling wine of Clement de Bordeaux.
The factory is housed on medieval monastery ruins. Drinking this wine there is an unforgettable experience. My friend emailed me while traveling in Bordeaux and asked what I would like as a souvenir. Immediately I replied, “Here is my list. See above attached photos”. I cannot wait to receive !

The Nobel Prize winners for this year have been announced, but where can a regular person try the luxury Nobel Prize banquet feast hosted by Royal Family. This time I would like to introduce the restaurant you can taste the reproduction menu of the Banquet. In the basement of Stockholm City Hall, there is a restaurant with a nice atmosphere . Anyone can taste the dinner menu of the Nobel Prize awards ceremony. You can order by selecting from the menu from 1901 up until last year, but reservations are required at least 2 days in advance. I was surprised that only 3 very Modest dishes were served.
“Richesse ” is a very trendy word in Japan. The New U.S Ambassador to Japan is Caroline Bouvier Kennedy. Young Japanese women are very image conscious… they are going to be crazy about her life style. A Generation of wealthy individuals with limitless funding …it is a totally different world. It evokes images of a jet set life style…I hope to be free to travel pretty soon.

Rem Koolhass: A Dutch Architect
Love this book: Delirious New York
Rem Koolhaas’s celebration and analysis of New York depicts the city as a metaphor for the incredible variety of human behavior. The culture of congestion–New York is a special case of modernism that sprang from a special constellation of political and technological forces, that collectively create a cultural “big-bang” at the turn of the century.

Vandana Shiva : An Indian Environmental Activist and Anti-Globalization Author
“Biopiracy”: The Plunder of Nature and Knowledge”, since the land, the forests, the oceans, and the atmosphere have already been colonized, eroded, and polluted, she argues against this. I love her passionate writing. Impeccable analysis of one of the worlds greatest problems, and an important introduction to the global threat to biodiversity. I watch everyone they make! Their work gives me energy when I have none of my own. These innovators are changing the world on a global level. It makes me want to do more.

I am always excited about the Milano Salone, but this year I was disappointed for the first time. No new trends this year. I usually take approximately 5,000 photos every year, but unfortunately this year I only took these two photochemical photos, one at the pavilion and one photo at a pond somewhere in Milano.
Placido Domingo & his family dined for Easter Dinner at my restaurant. His post mentioned Mihoko’s 21Grams on his Website.
